The United Soccer League's USL League One introduces its maiden in-season cup contest with Jägermeister as the title sponsor, marking a fresh sponsorship collaboration.
Dubbed the USL Jägermeister Cup, the tournament adopts a "World Cup-style" format to introduce additional consequential matches throughout the season.
Exclusively streamed on ESPN+, the tournament is underpinned by a newly inked three-year extension deal for the USL Championship and League One.
The Cup distinguishes itself with unique elements, including penalty shootouts in group stage fixtures and goals as the primary tie-breaker in group standings. It aims to deliver thrilling moments for players and fans alike.
USL League One president Lee O'Neill remarked, "The inaugural USL Jägermeister Cup will provide exciting and memorable moments for players and fans, and we couldn't be more thrilled to partner with Jägermeister as the title sponsor. A distinctive tournament calls for a unique partner, and Jägermeister's commitment to fostering a fun, communal experience aligns with our objectives for this in-season competition."
As part of Jägermeister's sponsorship, USL League One will spotlight teams and players throughout the tournament.
Fans will vote on the 'Shot of the Game' and enjoy a 'Round of Shots' goal compilation video across the league's social and digital platforms. Additionally, fans can participate in a bracket challenge set to launch ahead of the first matchday.
Jägermeister's branding will be prominently displayed throughout the tournament, featuring on the ball stand, exclusive merchandise, in-stadium signage, LEDs, and social media content associated with the event.
Having a longstanding involvement in soccer sponsorships, Jägermeister caused a stir in 1973 by sponsoring Eintracht Braunschweig, marking the first appearance of an advertiser on a club's shirt, which garnered attention from the German Football League (DFL).
Since then, the brand has extended its sponsorship portfolio to include a diverse range of sports, from bobsleigh and handball to figure skating and motorsport.
Expanding its presence in American sports, Jägermeister extended its sponsorship of the National Hockey League in October 2022, becoming the league's "official shot," featuring branding on the NHL's Digitally Enhanced Dashboards and at premier events.
The USL League One, established in 2019 as a third-tier United States Soccer Federation-sanctioned league, currently comprises 12 clubs across the U.S.
The Cup will begin on April 27 and run until the end of September, with the final scheduled for a weekend devoid of other USL League One regular season matches.
