When it comes to some of the biggest names in the world of sports betting in Ontario, Canada, the name FanDuel comes before almost anything else. They aren’t one of the old giants of the gambling industry – but a modern brainchild of a parallel industry that draws similar passion from customers – Fantasy Sports!
FanDuel began life as a Fantasy Sports website in 2009, bringing in a level of interactivity and social connectivity to Fantasy Sports that was otherwise quite isolated. Popularity grew and today, FanDuel has taken that popularity and leveraged their sports betting business on the backs of the same brand.
It is without doubt one of the most exciting brands out there in the word today and in North America, especially Ontario, Canada – FanDuel are the biggest player in the market by far! So let’s dive into what makes this brand so much more special than the rest!
FanDuel does not look like it’s trying to do a whole lot even though it is actually covering all the bases you can desire as an online sports bettor. Their app is not a complicated myriad of links and alleyways to get you lost – they have three things on their site – Sportsbook, Casino and Promotions.
There are plenty of things to like with their features, such as the popular Same Game Parlay bets they offer right at the beginning of the landing page. As soon as you land on their site, you get to see a whole bunch of same game parlay bets with the ability to reveal more options underneath.
You don’t have to go around hunting for odds boosts because FanDuel brings it right out into the open with their upfront display. Just click on the tab and all their NHL Odds Boosts, NBA Odds Boosts and other game-specific odds boosts show right up.
The list of bonuses and promotions on the FanDuel site is quite interesting and large. They had about 14-different promos running on their site at the time of writing this review and a lot of them vary based on the day of the week, sports, teams playing and more.
The FanDuel VIP program is what makes it ones of the most popular betting platforms. Not only do the members of this program get amazing promos that aren’t available to others, they also get invites to special events, higher quality customer service and even top-quality event tickets.
FanDuel offers a live telecast of almost every single live sport or betting category, alongside live stats for the games that are being shown.
Depending on what sports are in season, you can head over to the Parlay Hub and create parlays based on sport-specific prop bets. For example, you could create NBA Parlay Bets with players who’d be first to score 10+ points for their teams, or you could head over to the NHL tab and pick the first players to record 3+ shots on goal. The options are pre-set for you – all you have to do is go in and pick the ones you want.
They have some other unique features like their partnership with TSN, which allows you to see the TSN viewing schedule as well as bet on those games specifically. They have an amazing betting guide for newbies and a lot of interesting lines of bets for anyone who decides to take the leap with their website.
For some reason, FanDuel seems to have hit it out of the park with their UI/UX, and a lot of it can be attributed to the design and choice of minimalistic style of the site. Sports betting websites tend to be crowded with colours and information but FanDuel is trying to be the calm in the middle of a storm. The font is thin and clean, with all bets being displayed merely within outlined boxes.
You don’t have to click on the odds box to add a bet to your betting slip – which is always visible on the right. You pick a bet, it gets added to the slip and all you have to do is add in your betting amount or cross it out of your slip. They are one of the few websites that let you click on the odds you picked to remove it from your betting slip too – not sure why others don’t do that.
They have live stats and coverage of most games so you’ll never need to go anywhere to stay on track with your bets. They have one the best interfaces and pleasant colour schemes that you can find on a betting website too!
You will not find a sportsbook with a more appropriate line-up of sports for the North American market than FanDuel. They have everything you can think of, and then some that you can’t! Their most popular markets – NBA, NHL and NFL – are listed right at the top while the list below includes all of the usual suspects – Baseball, Soccer, Golf, Hockey, Lacrosse, MMA, Rugby and Tennis.
If you’re looking for something a bit more interesting, you could head into the Parlays section to see all their pre-set parlay options, or head into Novelty for some Oscars’ betting. There’s politics available for betting too, while they have a separate section under each sport for women’s sport – not something you see too often!
FanDuel has one of the most comprehensive sites for betting on football, with games from all the leagues available under one roof. In football, you can pick your league, and then pick whether you’d just like to bet on money lines or go to their Parlay Builder, their weekend specials, playoff specials or even the Super Bowl – it does not get any better than this!
Canada’s favourite sport is given it’s due by FanDuel as the NHL gets the respect it deserves. There are betting lines for games, the playoffs and the Stanley Cup, as well as boosts, conference-specific bets, division winner categories, futures, team points, awards, playoff runs and so much more. They also give the PWHL the same treatment so it makes no difference what league you are betting on!
The NBA is the primary playground for North American and Canadian basketball fans and FanDuel gives them a fantastic product! You can bet on regular games, playoff teams, specific players, conference winners and almost everything you can imagine around the game of basketball. The only place where they can improve is treating the other leagues a bit better because at the moment, you have to find them on a small dropdown menu at the end of the section.
Football and basketball are extremely popular amongst college sports fans and that’s where FanDuel has made significant impact with the accuracy and variety of their offerings. They have one of the best offerings for all the games, offering great props and futures to make every college sport fan ecstatic!
One of the most popular sports markets in North America, soccer gets the royal treatment from FanDuel as you get to access a whole bunch of leagues from across the world. You may not find some of the smaller leagues from countries like Nigeria or Vietnam, but for all the top leagues in the world, and then some – FanDuel has it all.
FanDuel is part of the Flutter Entertainment plc brand, formerly known as Paddy Power Betfair plc. They have one of the better set of odds in the market and even though they are part of the same overall gambling group that has the likes of BetFair, Paddy Power and Sportsbet, they do stand out frequently because of their odds.
FanDuel is also known to provide a bucketload of boosts so if it is highly competitive odds you’re looking for, and some boosts to boot, you can’t make a mistake with FanDuel.
FanDuel always has a whole bunch of boosts that are always available on their site, but the offers may change based on what sports people are betting on, what sports are in season and what day of the week it might be. There are weekend promotions, Monday promos, bonus bets, cashbacks and bets based on what month it is.
It’s quite likely that the moment you log in, you will find some promotion waiting for you and all you need to do is make sure you’ve got enough time on your hands to take advantage of the promos they are running.

They have the highest security measures in place to protect your data along with an option to let their customers opt out of any information transfer to FanDuel partners.
The FanDuel mobile app is a beautifully designed app that looks perfect on all mobile devices. While it is a progressive web app, the design has been carefully modified to suit the smaller screen, with all elements lining up and the banners being appropriately resized for easy readability.
If anything, the FanDuel app is probably a more pleasant platform to bet on as compared to the website – and that is extremely rare in this industry.
FanDuel has a strong customer support setup with 24x7 chat available alongside a phone line (609-224-1019). Support is only available in English but if you’re looking for another avenue, you can always email them (sportsbook@fanduel.com) or reach out to them on Twitter (@FanDuelCanada).
FanDuel enjoys a 4.7 rating on both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. The most common problems listed are related to the location finder or to the captcha. The app, however, is rated for 17+ in the app store and that might lead to a bit of confusion or potential downloads by underaged individuals.
It is quite clear that FanDuel is the market leader in North America as well as Ontario, Canada. However, that is due to their origins as a Fantasy Sports company that moved into betting. The adoption has been higher due to the legacy of the fantasy sports brand and it is natural that FanDuel have a large customer base.
That said, they have also created a product better than almost anybody else. They have a clean, crisp product and aren’t doing anything too flashy. Information is available easily, but not overloaded – and the interface is smooth and intuitive. With the sheer quantity of boosts and promos available on the site, it is no wonder that they are leading this industry in North American and will continue to be a powerhouse for years to come!
