One of the newer but more active betting companies in Ontario, Betano is a pretty good example of what is right and wrong about the sports betting brands Ontario. In almost every area, Betano has managed to create a brilliant place for itself with a nice, bright, vibrant platform that works well both on desktops and mobile devices.
However, there is a fine line between great design and great UI/UX and this is where Betano tends to stray over the line more often than it should. Some parts of gambling with Betano are brilliant while others are average or just downright weird. Let’s try and compile the entire list for you below.
Like all sports betting websites, Betano has a standard look where all the sports are listed on one side and a whole bunch of offers are available at the top-bar. They have a unique way of presenting all the offers in a scrolling ribbon of sorts.
When it comes to sports, they have pretty much all that the average betting fan would want – nothing crazy but nothing basic missing either – they have all their bases covered and as long as you don’t want to bet on the London mayoral elections or the next edition of the Gaelic games, you should be fine.
Some other interesting features are:
Betano has a section dedicated to statistics from almost all the sports they cover – including Winter sports – and these are always a great little tool for those who are serious sports bettors
While many brands out there might have a better eSports product, Betano do a decent job at it.
Betano don’t have too many out-of-the-ordinary sports but they do offer athletics and Olympic sports when they are available.
Right at the top of the landing page, they show some of the biggest upcoming games and boosted odds in a scrolling set of cards that contain one or two lines – allowing you to immediately add them to your bet slip.
Betano also has a fantasy game under their belt and that keeps people coming back for more, especially when it’s free to play.
Their promo ribbon is one of the most interesting features though – a lot of great promos and ideas right across the top and probably the most unique way of displaying promos amongst all the top sportsbooks in Ontario.
While everything else is quite standard, this is where they are really trying to stand out with some unique ways of representing older concepts.
Betano plays a dangerous game with their UI/UX because some things really hit the spot while other things are just too wild and unbalanced. Take their account section for example – it opens up as a pop-up window and if you’re depositing any money, you won’t really see it on your balance.
Don’t worry – the money’s there, it’s just not synced automatically. You have to manually refresh your balance so that you can start placing bets.
This manual refreshing is not the only bugbear we have with Betano – they also have a very bright and vibrant website, which can become too bright and too vibrant extremely quickly. Their bonus and promo ribbon, for example, has so much going on that unless you really take time out to read through each, you won’t really know if it’s a bonus, free spins or just an announcement.
They also have offers running in the right sidebar and amidst those bonuses, you have some announcements as well – like watch and bet. There’s basically a lot going on and while they aren’t going for the brooding sportsbook look with their bright orange colour, they certainly have a lot of UI/UX issues.
Things are quite simple and basic when it comes to their sports offerings – Betano covers all the grounds that you’d expect a top-level sportsbook to cover – NHL, NFL, NBA, MLB, Soccer, Golf, Tennis and other top sports. They run futures and props on almost all the games and have a very simple and direct format to addressing Canada’s sporting favourites.
While they do have a couple of outliers in athletics and Olympic sports, that’s where they bring out-of-the-ordinary to a halt and get back to the sports that work well. They tend to do the simple things well and that’s all that matters to be honest.
For enthusiasts of football betting, Betano distinguishes itself as a prime selection. Providing an extensive range of options, encompassing point spreads, money lines, player props, same game parlays, and bets on quarters, halves, and touchdowns, Betano ensures a thorough betting experience.
From the thrill of NCAA college football to the lesser-known Canadian Football League (CFL), Betano offers a versatile platform for football and NFL enthusiasts.
In the realm of hockey and the NHL, Betano delivers a fulfilling betting experience. Covering standard lines, player props, same game parlays, and period-based betting, Betano caters to the diverse preferences of hockey enthusiasts.
The coverage extends beyond the National Hockey League, including global leagues such as the European, Asian and other hockey leagues from around the world.
Among Betano's top sports offerings, basketball takes center stage. Encompassing every game from the NBA, WNBA, NCAA men’s and women’s leagues, Betano provides a comprehensive platform for basketball enthusiasts.
The excitement isn't confined to North American leagues; Betano offers betting options on leagues worldwide, including those in Spain, Brazil, EuroLeague, and other major and minor basketball leagues.
Betano gives special attention to college sports, raising the bar for every game to the level of professional leagues. With standard betting lines, player props, and coverage of leagues spanning from the Mid-American Conference to FBS, Betano ensures a robust offering for college sports enthusiasts.
As a European sportsbook, Betano excels in catering to North American soccer enthusiasts. Betano covers a diverse range of soccer competitions – from the most popular to some of the smaller nations. The platform offers an unmatched betting experience, ensuring soccer fans have access to a wealth of leagues, games, player props, money lines, and a variety of markets dedicated to the beautiful game.
Betano does not make their own odds – they buy odds from elsewhere and you can see them running very similar odds to some of the other sports betting companies like Sports Interaction or Bet365. That means, if you see a pre-made parlay on offer as a special bet on Bet365 and Sports Interaction (amongst others), you will find it on Betano as well.
There’s almost no originality and that’s completely fine as long as they are towing the line set by companies that are better at setting odds than Betano. What they’re banking on is providing better bonuses than others – so if you’ve got the right bonuses, you might choose them over others – that’s their hope!
This is the part that Betano really tries to capitalize on irrespective of which part of their website you are interested in. If it’s sportsbooks you want, they have about 18-different offers running at all times. Most of their offers are around the popular sports like Basketball or Soccer, some are around same game parlays or parlay boosters, but you’ll find some really interesting and obscure offers from time to time.
Their 6-goal lead equals win is one of the biggest handball offers you will find anywhere while their welcome bonus is a $500, 100%-matched offer. They do a lot of “goals ahead” or “points ahead” offers that you don’t necessarily have to activate to enjoy – so that’s always a pleasant surprise when you see your favourite soccer team leading by 3-goals and being given a win, no matter how the game ends.
The options for deposits offered by Betano include:
The options for withdrawals are limited to a bank transfer so you have more ways to give them money than to take from them.
All deposits are instant although you do have to refresh your balance to get your account to reflect the actual money you’ve deposited. Additionally, withdrawals may take up to 5-days to get processed.
Betano prioritizes the security of user transactions, ensuring the utmost confidentiality and protection of personal data in accordance with Canada's PIPEDA. Committed to PIPEDA compliance, their practices govern the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information, safeguarding user data and privacy.
Betano also claims to make regular security audits identify and address potential vulnerabilities, maintaining the highest security standards. Partnering with secure payment gateways adhering to industry-leading standards, they provide an extra layer of protection to financial transactions – so a safe site to use, all in all!
The Betano mobile app is about as messed up as the website itself, when it comes to UI/UX. For decades, there was this problem of receiving two OTPs to verify login – once when you opened the app and once when you submitted your login details. When they finally resolved that, the keyboard behaves weirdly when you try to type in the SMS code – it disappears and reappears after each of the 4-numbers you type.
If that isn’t weird enough, you have the same issue when accessing your account or depositing money – it opens on what appears to be a new section (it completely reloads the page) and then you have to go through the process of closing that section and going back to your betting markets or home screen. This could be done so much better – you have to wonder who runs their UI/UX team.
There seem to be adequate options to connect with Betano’s support – they have a help portal that is much more effective than anything else you’ll see out there. They don’t restrict you to the questions they have listed as FAQs, and have a better search function than most other websites. If you cannot find your anwer there, you can simply scroll down to open up the chat option.
Right below that, they have their links to email their marketing team or email their support for further help. So everything appears to be available on hand and that’s generally a lot better than most other websites you’ll see in Ontario.
While Betano has a 4.5 rating out of 5 on the Apple App Store, out of 839 ratings, the most common complaints appear to be related to live bets not being accepted or withdrawals not working correctly/taking too long. There aren’t too many complaints though because almost 75% of the reviews are 5-star reviews.
The Android reviews are not the same – it’s just 4 out of 5 there, from over 20.2K reviews. There are a lot more 1, 3 and 4-star reviews and the problems appear to be along the similar vein as the App Store reviews – mainly withdrawals, live bets not getting accepted or even cash outs on live bets not being honoured.
When it comes to sports betting companies, Betano is a Greek company that tried to pass itself off as a Canadian company by calling itself Canada’s own sportsbook. They do a decent job – nothing great – but they are certainly capable of getting the basics right when it comes to their sports markets and the odds offered.
Where they mess up is on their actual usage experience and how their app actually allows you to move around. It is quite jerky and their account section is completely separate from the rest of their website – which makes it seem disconnected, especially because the account balance does not automatically refresh.
They do have a lot of bonuses and offers running and some of them are automatically applied to your bets as winning conditions. All in all, Betano appears to be a decent brand as far as your third or fourth app is concerned – definitely much room for improvement as far as the overall experience is concerned.
