In the world of sports betting, there are few brands that have managed to create a brand that is respected and recognized all over the world – Betway is one of them! Founded in 2006 and owned by Super Group, the company has been one of the leading brands in sports betting and is also one of the most visible brands with massive marketing budgets leading their charge on all markets, including Ontario, Canada.
The company has been the sponsor of some of the biggest sports teams and leagues around the world and amongst all the sports betting companies in the world, their brand has been the most recognizable name. Is the marketing noise mere bluster or is there a solid sportsbook experience waiting behind that marketing curtain – read on to find out!
The Betway product has been tried and tested over a number of years, working its way towards the near-perfect platform that you see today. They have all the things you’d expect from a top sportsbook – the live games, the variety of sports, but you also get some new things that you might not find elsewhere.
This is an interesting little feature where you get to join a specific group of users within Betway who get “bet tokens” every week. All you need to do is place a bet with $25 stake or more, with at least 3-selections, and irrespective of the outcome of your bet, you’ll receive two $5 bets before the next week.
Everyone has a section where they show their live games but Betway also has something where the entire list of games on the left-sidebar has a little green “live” notification on any sport that may have a live game running. This is even more important because when you click on a sport on the left-sidebar, the Live events aren’t necessarily visible right up front, so having this little notification there tells you to check out the Live Now tab.
The website changes colour when you visit this section and there’s a whole bunch of new things you can find here – new offers, an eSports club that basically the same as the Parlay Club, but with a single $10 bet token instead of the two $5 bet tokens. They have a whole bunch of games here as well as a lot of virtual sports as well working for you.
One of the best things about Betway – FlexiBonus allows you to withdraw your own cash at any point of time inside your bonus turnover cycle. You may not be able to get all your bonus amounts out at any point in time, but you will be able to get the cash that you own.
Overall, Betway is a site that does the basics really well – they know sports betting and they do it well. They don’t have too many gimmicks in place and you won’t see too much flash and bang in the way you might at other websites.
Betway has a pleasant website that has nice colours and uses a pattern that can sometimes be mistaken for Bet365, except for the increased use of black, instead of white (on Bet365). The thing we found hard to read were their bonus terms and conditions – with the colours on the imagery and the tightness of the fonts, it makes the text extremely challenging to read.
The imagery used across the bonus banners also looks very similar so the usage of colours on the players and elements in each banner tend to make everything look similar. They have a nice touch with the switch-over from green to purple on the eSports section but again, the bonus banners have the same look and the banner text for bonus terms and conditions becomes looks even more blurry.
Other than that, they have a convenient way of choosing some basic settings like your odds format, registering through a nice, convenient registration form, and a clear, clean usage of fonts that makes betting events extremely pleasant to read.
Betway, like most older gambling companies, have a very strong base in the kind of sports they offer. On the left-sidebar, they have all the sports listed, at least those with events coming up in the upcoming days or those with futures to bet on.
You have all the usual suspects – football, baseball, basketball, soccer, golf and tennis – and you also have some of the fringe elements in Gaelic Sports, Greyhounds, Snooker, Handball and Motor Sports (including Formula 1). All in all, you get a good mix of sports here and you’ll probably find anything that you may be looking for to bet on.
Betway has a strong offering on football with all of the NFL games for each week listed out unlike other sites, which may only have the next two days’ of games. They also cover all the major leagues so you don’t get the feeling that you’re going to miss out on anything related to Football, happening anywhere in North America.
The second most popular sport on Betway, hockey leagues like the NHL, AHL, the Swedish league, the German league, the Under-20 World Championships as well as field hockey events from around the world. Betway does hockey as well as it can be done by a sportsbook.
Another great sport offering from Betway, every league that matters is covered by the sportsbook. From the NBA and WNBA to the EuroLeague, Lega A from Italy and even the Korean KBL – you will find basketball games from every single league.
Unlike most other sports books, Betway does not have a separate section for college sports. They do, however, offer college sports under most sports markets. While they do offer almost all the relevant sports, the fact that they are hard to find makes it slightly more annoying.
Soccer is the third-most popular sport on Betway and you will never find anything missing from this sports market. Every single league is covered and you get futures, player props, boosts and everything else you can imagine for this market.
Betway receive their betting odds from SBTech, which means that they are not unique to Betway and that is a bit of a downer. They have some boosts running but their betting odds match with other sites like ComeOn! That makes them no better than some of the other websites out there so if you are looking for some competitive advantage here, that would leave you disappointed.
Betway has a whole bunch of bonuses on offer – even if you aren’t a member yet. You get a $200 free bet as soon as you join and if your bet loses, you get 50-free spins on their casino. They are pretty creative on their bonuses too – bringing you a whole bunch of options like first TD wins on all Monday Night Football games, money backs if your NBA bet loses with a three-pointer, double winnings if your first goal-scorer in the NHL ends up with a brace – and so much more.
You won’t find a while bunch of crazy options like some of the other websites that are putting out bonuses for the sake of putting them out – but you will find all the usual bonuses with a little bit of variety thrown in for good measure.
Betway has quite a few deposit methods that you can use:
The average minimum betting deposit value is $10 and all the transfers are almost instantaneous.
The withdrawal options on Betway are as follows:
All the options require a minimum withdrawal of $10 while the average time for each of these withdrawal methods is about 3-5 days.
Betway uses some of the most sophisticated security measures to protect your personal data and financial information. They work with some of the best payment providers in the industry, which ensures that your data is handled in the most professional, correct ways that you can possibly hope for. You also have the option to enable two-factor authentication to make your account even more secure.
The Betway mobile app is a very close replica of their website – in fact the app is a progressive web app and, therefore, is essentially the same website scaled down perfectly for the mobile version. What that means though is that you cannot read the banner text and while everything else looks nice and well-fitted for the smaller device, the bonus graphics on the website look even more blurry than before.
That, however, is not the worst bit – the worst bit is that you need to have a different app for their sportsbook, their casino and live casino – so that’s just a whole bunch of apps that you need to cycle through if you want to switch from one vertical to another. That’s not a very good place to be!
Betway has a separate portal for their help section but it’s not that easy to find. At the beginning of the footer, there’s a small footer menu item called “Help” – it doesn’t stand out, there’s no pop-up chatbot and if you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, you will miss it. So if you do manage to scroll down to just above the bottom of the page and reach the Help portal, you’ll see a grid layout of the most popular items that they feel you need information about.
Within each, there’s a bunch of FAQs for each section but to go into another section, you need to get out to the main page before you can go to another section – there’s no menu here to help. If you don’t find what you need, then at the end of the question that you are looking for, you’ll find a little question that asks you if you still need more help – and that is how you get to the options of chat or email – but make sure you are logged in otherwise it doesn’t work!
Betway has a 4.7 rating out of 5 on the Apple App Store, with over 50.3K reviews, however there are a number of problems that you can immediately see. The first problem is that some of the reviews appear to be “Astroturf-ed” while a lot of the complaints are about the complexities of deposits, withdrawals and how many hoops you have to jump through to get your money out of Betway.
The Google Play Store has a slightly different situation where they have a 4.3 rating out of 5, from 11.4k reviews. The main complaints here appear to be about the app timing out too quickly. A lot of people pointed out that the app tends to lag or freeze quite regularly so you may want to look out for that.
Betway was and continues to be one of the big brands leading the Ontario market when it comes to being reliable and dependable. A lot of that has to do with the focus on providing a decent, complete product that does the basics well. They have a few design flaws and their odds aren’t brilliant enough to make you stop and look, but you do find that if you are interested in betting only, they are a great place to be.
If, however, you are looking for flashy promos, great bonuses, free to play games or any of the many other things that modern sports betting websites tend to come with, you will be disappointed. Betway has a reputed brand in the market and it is on that brand that they tend to rely. They have a large user base but unless they improve their game, there may not be too much to keep you playing on their website.
