After the Winnipeg Jets' early exit from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, head coach Rick Bowness is expected to announce his retirement on Monday.
Bowness's decision follows the Jets' elimination by the Colorado Avalanche in the first round.
Reports suggest that Jets' associate coach Scott Arniel, a former head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets, is a strong contender to replace Bowness.
However, all options will be considered in the selection process.
Bowness, who previously considered retirement in 2022 after leaving the Dallas Stars, was enticed by the opportunity to coach the Jets.
This past season, the Jets achieved an impressive record, finishing second in the Central Division and earning Bowness a nomination for the Jack Adams Award.
A native of Moncton, N.B., Bowness had a six-season NHL career as a player before transitioning to coaching.
Over 14 seasons as an NHL head coach, he amassed a record of 310-408-48-37 with various teams, including the original Winnipeg Jets franchise.
Bowness also served as an associate coach with the Vancouver Canucks and Tampa Bay Lightning.
Bowness's retirement marks the end of an illustrious coaching career, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and leadership in the NHL.
