Two notable NHL general managers are set to lend their expertise to Team Canada over the next few years.
Hockey Canada announced on Tuesday that Tampa Bay Lightning GM Julien BriseBois will serve as an assistant general manager for Team Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off and the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.
Joining BriseBois, Pittsburgh Penguins GM Kyle Dubas will become the director of player personnel for the national teams.
At the Olympics, they will work under Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney for the 4 Nations Face-Off and St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong.
“Julien and Kyle are accomplished NHL general managers,” Armstrong said. “I am excited to welcome them to our management group for both the 4 Nations Face-Off and Olympics, as I believe they will be strong assets to a well-rounded management team.”
Armstrong emphasized that their extensive NHL experience will be crucial in assembling a top-tier Canadian team for international competitions.
“Both Julien and Kyle have enjoyed long and successful careers, and we believe their experience and knowledge of NHL players will be a great addition to our staff as we continue to evaluate Canadian players and build rosters for international competition.”
Sweeney, along with assistant GM Jim Nill, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with BriseBois and Dubas as they prepare for the 4 Nations Face-Off.
“Jim and I are thrilled to have Julien and Kyle join our management group for the 4 Nations Face-Off,” Sweeney said.
“Both are successful NHL general managers that bring a wealth of knowledge, many years of experience at the professional level and great leadership skills that will be beneficial to our coaches, support staff, and players.”
BriseBois has been the GM of the Lightning since 2018, assembling a team that won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021.
He previously served as an assistant GM under Steve Yzerman, worked in the minor leagues, and was director of hockey operations for the Montreal Canadiens.
Dubas is entering his second season as president of hockey operations and GM of the Penguins and has seven years of experience as an NHL general manager.
He previously spent nine years with the Toronto Maple Leafs, including five years as GM.
Canada will compete against the United States, Sweden, and Finland at the 4 Nations Face-Off in Montreal and Boston in February 2025.
The full Canadian roster for the showcase will be announced the week of November 29-December 2.
