NHL Team in Utah Announces Six Finalists for Team Name

The NHL team in Utah is now down to six finalists for its new name, sparking excitement and anticipation among hockey fans and the general public.

Smith Entertainment Group (SEG) announced Thursday that the choices have been narrowed to:

Blizzard
Mammoth
Outlaws
Venom
Yeti, and
Utah Hockey Club (Utah HC)

As a valued fan, you have the exclusive opportunity to choose from these names.

The process started with 20 possibilities and has already accumulated a staggering 520,000 votes.

Your Voice Matters!

The public has until the end of the day on June 20 to participate in the second round of voting.

Your vote will help determine the team's final name.

Team owner Ryan Smith has emphasized that the jerseys will feature "Utah" for the inaugural season.

He told The Associated Press that the name would definitely include Utah in some form.

Branding and Logos

Last week, Smith Entertainment Group filed eight logo/wordmark applications involving the state name or Utah Hockey Club in light blue and black.

This could be the final name or a placeholder until branding company Doubleday & Cartwright develops a long-term branding strategy with a logo and color scheme that will be in place for the 2025-26 season.

Acquisition and Relocation

Smith's group, which also owns the NBA's Utah Jazz, purchased the team formerly known as the Arizona Coyotes for $1.2 billion and relocated it to Salt Lake City.

Retaining the Coyotes name was not an option because the former owner, Alex Meruelo, retains the logo with the opportunity to revive the franchise if he can secure a suitable arena in the Phoenix area.
