In a major shake-up, the Chicago White Sox fired manager Pedro Grifol after his first managerial stint ended with an 89-190 record.
The decision was made on Thursday, just before this weekend's Crosstown Classic against the Cubs at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Along with Grifol, bench coach Charlie Montoyo, third-base coach Eddie Rodriguez, and assistant hitting coach Mike Tosar were also dismissed.
Former Major League coach Grady Sizemore has been appointed interim manager for the remainder of the 2024 season.

The White Sox announced that the search for a new full-time manager is underway, and a replacement will be named after the season.
"As we all recognize, our team's performance this season has been disappointing on many levels," stated Chris Getz, White Sox senior vice president/general manager.
"Despite the on-field struggles and lack of success, we appreciate the effort and professionalism Pedro and the staff brought to the ballpark every day. These two seasons have been very challenging.
"Unfortunately, the results were not there, and a change is necessary as we look to our future and the development of a new energy around the team."
Grifol replaced Miguel Cairo, who had stepped in for Hall of Famer Tony La Russa during the 2022 season.
Despite a promising start, Grifol's tenure saw little success.
His managerial career began with a victory over the defending World Series champions, but the team quickly faltered, finishing the 2023 season with a 61-101 record.
The struggles continued into 2024, with a disastrous 3-22 start and a franchise-record 21-game losing streak.
The White Sox currently hold a 28-89 record, with a 1-18 mark since the All-Star break and an 11-49 record on the road.
The focus will now shift to evaluating young players like starters Jonathan Cannon and Ky Bush, as well as infielders Brooks Baldwin and Lenyn Sosa, with potential additional Minor League call-ups in the final months of the season.
