The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has initiated the trial phase of its cutting-edge self-serve lottery terminals, introducing an innovative way for customers to purchase lottery products.
This move is part of OLG's commitment to enhancing gaming experiences and catering to evolving consumer and retailer preferences.
The Crown agency revealed that the pilot program, launched in collaboration with retail partners and industry stakeholders, will deploy approximately 140 terminals initially in strategic locations, primarily in the Greater Toronto Area and Saul Ste. Marie.
These self-serve kiosks, equipped with advanced self-service solutions, enable users to conveniently buy national and regional lottery products using debit or credit cards, including popular Instants tickets.
Nancy Kennedy, OLG's Chief Lottery and Customer Officer, emphasized the agency's dedication to responsible play and meeting the needs of its stakeholders.
The pilot is scheduled to run until May 2024, with plans to expand the deployment of terminals across the province later in 2024.
During this period, the terminals will undergo rigorous age verification, displaying responsible gambling messages to ensure a secure gaming environment.
Additionally, OLG has incorporated a remote disabling feature for added security, allowing retailers to disable the terminals if necessary.
The OLG's ongoing commitment to supporting community initiatives is evident in its recent gaming allocations.
Casino host communities, including Niagara Falls and Windsor, received significant proceeds from the third quarter of 2023-24, contributing to healthcare, combating problem gambling, and supporting amateur athletes.
Niagara Falls secured the most significant portion of gaming proceeds, receiving approximately CA$ 4 million, albeit a slight decrease from the previous quarter.
Windsor, hosting Caesars Windsor Casino, received a substantial payment of around CA$ 2.1 million for Q3, contributing to its total of CA$ 7,886,295 since the fiscal year's commencement.
The self-serve lottery terminals mark a significant step forward in OLG's commitment to innovation and responsible gaming practices, providing players with a secure and convenient means of purchasing lottery products.
