Alejandro Mendoza Crespo and Jorge Panta Herreros have been handed significant penalties by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) for multiple offences.

Mendoza received a lifetime ban for 20 violations, while Panta was suspended for three years for four infringements.

The sanctions were imposed by independent anti-corruption hearing officer Professor Richard McLaren after a formal hearing in March.

Effective from April 4, the bans also include fines of $250,000 for Mendoza and $10,000 for Panta.

Both players are prohibited from participating in any ITIA-sanctioned events, including those organized by the ATP and WTA.

These sanctions are part of a broader crackdown following a criminal case in Belgium involving match-fixing syndicate leader Grigor Sargsyan, who was sentenced to five years in prison.

The ITIA's actions come after seven players were previously banned in November for their involvement in the case.

Additionally, the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) reported a 12% increase in alerts during the first quarter of the year, with 14 alerts related to tennis.

These figures highlight ongoing concerns about integrity within the sport.
