Kylian Mbappé has officially joined Real Madrid, marking the end of a long courtship between one of soccer's brightest stars and the world's most successful club.
On Monday, Madrid announced it had reached a deal with the French forward for the next five seasons, bringing immense talent to their already formidable squad.
"A dream come true," Mbappé expressed on social media platform X. "So happy and proud to join the club of my dream. Nobody can understand how excited I am right now. Can't wait to see you, Madridistas, and thanks for your unbelievable support. ¡Hala Madrid!"
The post, written in English, Spanish, and French, included photos of a young Mbappé wearing a Madrid jacket, one of which featured him with Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo.
The financial specifics of Mbappé's contract were not disclosed, nor was the date for his official presentation, as the player is currently with the French national team preparing for the European Championship.
At 25, Mbappé joins Real Madrid as a World Cup winner and a celebrated player from his stints with Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Madrid, fresh from securing a record-extending 15th European Cup title by defeating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the Champions League final, welcomes him into a squad already boasting talents like Vinícius Júnior, Rodrygo, and Jude Bellingham.
Mbappé's addition could rekindle the "galáctico" era of Real Madrid, reminiscent of times when the club featured global icons such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Brazil's Ronaldo, David Beckham, Luis Figo, and Karim Benzema.
Before joining Madrid, Mbappé had played exclusively for French clubs. He began his career at Monaco, where he became a teenage sensation, leading the club to the Champions League semifinals in 2017.
He later joined PSG, where he spent seven seasons, eventually leaving as a free agent after deciding not to extend his contract.
Back in 2021, Madrid bid 180 million euros for Mbappé, mirroring the fee PSG had paid Monaco, but the bid was rejected.
Despite this setback, Madrid president Florentino Pérez remained committed to signing Mbappé, a priority since the player's visit to the club's facilities at age 14.
Mbappé's journey to Madrid was not straightforward. He initially chose to join Monaco's youth academy instead of Madrid.
He later stunned the soccer world by extending his contract with PSG in 2022, following encouragement from French President Emmanuel Macron. However, Madrid and Pérez never lost hope.
Mbappé's proficiency in Spanish, which he learned during his time at Monaco, should ease his integration into a team featuring French players like Eduardo Camavinga, Aurélien Tchouaméni, and Ferland Mendy.
With an illustrious resume, Mbappé has already achieved significant milestones: winning the World Cup at 19, scoring a hat trick in the World Cup final at 23, securing seven French league titles, four French Cups, and establishing himself as a prolific scorer.
He captained the French national team and was the second teenager after Pelé to score in a World Cup final.
Despite his achievements, he could not secure a Champions League title with PSG, losing the final in 2020 and failing to score in this season's semifinals against Dortmund.
Mbappé departs PSG as their all-time leading scorer with 256 goals, including a club-record 175 in the French league.
His highest-scoring season with PSG saw him net 44 goals, and he was the top scorer in the French league for six consecutive seasons.
